WLAM 2023- THE CITY OF “THEN” – The SIMPLE PAST Tense

Over the years the city of Mumbai has changed drastically to meet its ever-growing population needs. We often, ponder and look back into memories to find the visuals from the past. We reminisce about those visuals and experiences, in search of the city that would have existed “THEN.” Now all that remains, are memories.

We are inviting participants to share such memories of a place they have in the city.

The city of ‘Then’ – the simple past tense: An open call to share old photos of the city of Mumbai with a 50-word write-up sharing experience which will be uploaded on the social media handles of ISOLA Mumbai chapter

Celebrating World Landscape Architecture Month: April 2021

An open call to submit to ISOLA a Haiku/Charoli (Short poem or 4 liners) regarding any mature tree in one’s immediate neighborhood and their association with it, along with a photograph.

ISOLA will be publishing selected submissions along with a small paragraph about the scientific information and socio ecological value of the tree.

This is an attempt to bring out to the public at large the understanding about the socio-ecological value of a single tree, along with highlighting the aspect of landscape which deals not only about the understanding of the flora but all its attributes ecological, physical, social.

Shodh 3.0

“Shodh” is a series of workshops which focuses on helping the undergrad and postgraduate students of Architecture and young professionals in Mumbai City to upgrade their skills in Research and representation methods. Students who are in their per-theses or thesis semester and Young professionals who wish to enhance their skills in research writing and methodologies can look forward to gaining a lot from this workshop.

This year “Shodh” has broadened its horizon by going online and offering this platform to these categories at Pan-India level. We cordially invite students and young professionals from fields of Architecture, Urban planning, Urban Design, Conservation, Landscape Architecture and allied fields to participate in this workshop.

Dr.Shinde is Principal, Head Department of Botany and Director, Blatter Herbarium. He has authored multiple books and research papers. He is also a recipient of multiple awards and scholarships. Dr. Shinde will be talking about the mesmerizing topic of the behaviour and adaptations of plants during nights!

 

Dr. Pankaj Koparde
Dr. Pankaj Koparde is an evolutionary ecologist and has been involved in research on owls and dragonflies since the past decade. He has co-founded Dragonfly South Asia and Owl India.
For the SD Vaidya memorial lecture Dr Koparde will be speaking on the the relatively unknown topic of “The Urban night lifescape, the secret lives of nocturnal animals”

ISOLA Mumbai chapter announces the first ever session of our Reading Circle “CHARCHA SATRAA”.

The idea behind this series is to initiate learned dialogues and discussions among the participants regarding various topics related to landscape, architecture, art and allied fields, celebrating the idea of multiplicity of perceptions. With these sessions we hope that all of us would emerge richer in knowledge and would be better equipped for our further forays in the field.

The topic for this session is “Places of Memories/ Rememberance”.
The reading session will be held on Saturday 9th June 2018 at The Conference Room, 1st Floor LSR college of Architecture and is open to all.

1. Mr Anupam Mishra
Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar award winner Anupam Mishra is a Gandhian , author, journalist, environmentalist, and water conservationist who works on promoting water conservation, water management and traditional rain water harvesting techniques. Do not miss an opportunity to listen to him!

2. Mr Rajendra Singh
Rajendra Singh,popularly known as “Waterman of India” is a well-known water conservationist from Rajasthan.He has won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for community leadership in 2001 for his pioneering work in community-based efforts in water harvesting and water management. He runs an NGO called ‘Tarun Bharat Sangh’ (TBS), which was founded in 1975.,” The Guardian named him amongst its list of “50 people who could save the planet”.

3. Mr Mohan Rao
International Federation of Landscape Architects’ President’s Award for the Asia Pacific Region winner in 2010, Mohan Rao, is an Environmental Design & Landscape Architecture professional and the principal designer of the leading multidisciplinary consultancy practice, Integrated Design (INDÉ), based in Bangalore.

4. Mr Ninad Bedekar 
A historian, writer and orator from Pune, Ninad Bedekar is a prolific contributor to newspapers and magazines.He has scripted the Son et lumière show at Shaniwarwada, and written the script for Marathi TV serial Peshwai.He is known for his research on the forts of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and about many forts outside India.He is also an author of various renowned books on forts in India.

5. Dr. Himanshu Kulkarni
Dr. Himanshu Kulkarni completed his PhD in groundwater in 1987 and is still an ardent student of the subject. His work on the occurrence and movement of groundwater in the hard-rock regions of India is known in academic and research circles.

He is currently working on groundwater management across India’s diverse hydro-geological typology.

He is the Founder Trustee and Executive Director at Advanced Center for Water Resource Development and Management- a not-for-profit organization that aims to develop solutions to groundwater problems.

It is a premier Education and Research Institution and facilitates work on groundwater management through action research programmes and training.
