John Button has worked in the field of design and implementation with Permaculture for more than 35 years, first in his native country, Australia, and for the past 30 years in Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, Russia and the Canary Islands.
He works as a designer, teacher, consultant and co-ordinator of projects, acquiring an experience as varied as the climatic types and cultures with which he had to been involved: wet and dry tropical climates; sub-tropical, Mediterranean, temperate and alpine climates. The result of these years of work, during which he has built houses, designed communities, planted gardens and orchards and thousands of trees, was the creation of ecological production systems, self-sufficient and very beautiful aesthetically. He is an active supporter of campaigns that promote environmental and social justice.
As NatureDesigns and Green Gaia Project, John works with his wife Francesca, a doctor in Agronomy, and Jonathan Halpern, friend and colleague of 30 years, creating and supervising projects in abundance and harmony, whether designing resorts, or transforming wastelands to oases, or any other situations. Amongst the projects nearest to his heart are: the Regreening of Arunachala, Tamil Nadu; landscaping of Green School, Bali, Argayall Resort, Canary Islands, and currently creating rich productive ecosystems in Jordan and Russia!
With this experience so diverse, he combines in his work a profound belief that the world can offer everyone a space of abundant sufficiency, that people are gradually changing (however they must change) and are becoming aware that they must be themselves to implement these changes. Since we are the problem, it is up to us to find the solution!
